Many people have heard the word alchemy but they are not really sure what it means. For some they associate it with witchcraft, astrology, occults and basic evil. Others believed that alchemy was a chemical process that was used by scientists.

When using alchemy to modify and change metals, in the past many people believed that they could make gold from these other metals. They worked hard to perfect their work, but they were never successful in making gold that was of the same standard and quality as the gold that is found naturally within the earth.

The ability to focus on others and to achieve a new level of awareness outside of ones body has also been attributed to Hinduism. They believe that through their religious believes that a person can eventually (after several lifetimes) reach a level of attainment—this is very similar to the spiritual level that people who believe alchemy can reach.
There has been a fine line within the alchemy community on exactly what this means. Everything really depends upon which school of thought you believe. There are still people who believe that you can combine metals using alchemy to make gold; there are others who believe they can reach spiritual enlightenment through alchemy.
