When it comes to American health products we like to think that we have cornered the market on safety and reliability. In fact, at times we are arrogant and think that our way is the best and only way. Others in the world might think that we are self-centered and in some ways we are.
To fully understand and appreciate the American health products industry you must know more about the US Food and Drug Administration. It is well known that health products in America are better regulated than anywhere else in the world. For some, this regulation appears to be a stumbling block to getting a product out for sale quickly. Many of us, however, realize that it is the Food and Drug Administration that makes sure that the health products for sale on shelves of American stores are safe for the consumers to use.
Just how did all of this come about? Why did we even come up with a Federal agency that is just used to regulate and control food and drug items. The FDA began operations with one employee back in 1862 and it has gone through many changes and different names over the years. When first created they had to coordinate with the different states to come up with one unified way to regulate products. Their goal has remained the same in that they want to protect the consumer from harmful food and drugs.
Today there are literally hundreds of thousands of different health products available to Americans. We purchase these items to help with numerous personal care and medical issues. When you think about how many products are available, you can see just how much the American consumer is purchasing. We are buying health products at an ever increasing rate and this increase does not appear to be leveling off.
It is through advertising on television, radio and in magazines that we learn about health products that are available in American stores. Through a slow but subtle campaign, many of us are eventually convinced that we need to purchase these products to make us happier and healthier.
In some parts of the world the availability of health products is very limited and you must have a lot of money to purchase them. Americans are fortunately when it comes to health products as many of them are reasonably priced because of competition among the different manufacturers.
There are many different health products that are available to us and we will continue to use them. What we should remember is that competition among the manufacturers is good and switching brands if you are not completely satisfied is one of the best ways to let them know that you are not happy with one of their health products.
